Michaela earned her master’s degree in behavioral, social, and community health with a focus on maternal and child health and the goal of influencing health programs to listen to those they were designed to benefit. She founded Priyam Global in 2014 and as executive director travels frequently between Indiana, USA, and Chennai, India. Michaela also works as a web designer, writer, and consultant in community health worker programming and communications.
Rani provides in-country leadership for the MAHLA project, including program planning, development, and oversight of budgets. She contributes her years of experience in serving families of children with disabilities to coordinate the activities of the MAHLA project pilot and ensuring that family needs are met. Rani is also the founder and trustee of Hope Special School, Priyam Global's key partner.
As our full-time social worker, Linsy spends her days at the heart of the MAHLA project: with the mothers. Through creating and strengthening relationships with each family in the MAHLA project, Linsy uses a listening-based approach to understand and support all members of special needs families to prioritize needs, to set goals, and to access the services they need. Linsy earned her MSW in 2016 and is fluent in Tamil, English, and Malayalam.
Katra Awad is a self-taught jewelry designer born in Southern California and raised traveling abroad through Mexico, Europe & the Caribbean. She is currently based in Brooklyn. Katra is Priyam’s in-house guest artist providing technical guidance and a handful of special designs for the upcoming Shop MAHLA. She traveled to Chennai, India in 2016 and introduced Priyam's first MAHLA cohort to jewelry making. You can find more of Katra’s designs here and on Instagram @katraawad.
